Scoop Dent Fix

Dear fellow MBers,

I have responded to several of you interested in the MB fix that I worked
out. I thought it would be easier to just drop this thread on the newsgroup
for anyone who is interested.

Please drop me an email and let me know how it works for you.

Well, here is what I did to help slowdown if not eliminate the dent that was
forming on the left side of the scoop.

1. I bought a piece of 1/16" Lucite (purchased at Lowe's) and cut it to the
following dimensions: 1 1/4" length, 3/8" height. This dimension will fit
perfectly on the left side of the scoop. You will be mounting it to the side
of the playfield.

2. I re-enforced the Lucite with a piece of mylar cut to the same size.
Place the mylar on the Lucite piece that you have just cut. You can buy
mylar pieces from any WMS parts distributor. I personally buy my parts from
Steve Young at Pinball Resource.

3. After the mylar is attached to the Lucite piece, you will need to apply
some wood glue (I used Carpenter's Goop. NOTE: Make sure to buy clear) on
the opposite side. You will now mount it on the left side of the scoop
(attached to the playfield). Please make sure that you use the "factory"
edge for the top and make the Lucite just a little bit lower than the
playfield (This will ensure that the ball does not hop over the Lucite). You
will probably want to use a level to make sure you are just below the
playfield.

4. Depending on the wood you use, please make sure to hold in place for a
minute or so in order to guarantee it does not slip.

5. I would recommend not playing your MB for approx. 12-24 hours in order
for the glue to set properly.

6. You can repeat the same process to put Lucite on the front of the scoop.

Please let me know if this works for you. After several weeks I ran my
finger over the Lucite piece and noticed that there was a small dent in the
Lucite (better than on the playfield). Also, the Lucite piece is barely
noticeably attached to the playfield.

Sincerely,
Dennis
